Canungra and Surroundings

Federation Park Toowomba.

As we approached Toowoomba we parted ways with John and Bonnie who went to visit family while we stooped at Federation park outside Toowoomba overnight. This stop was not overly inspiring but well maintained with flush toilets and nicely mowed parkland. It is really just a carpark and there is some roadnoise but was fine for a cheap overnight stop.

Accommodation Rating – 2.5/5

Facilities Flushing toilets, park with BBQ, walking track

Comment Apparently camping here is a trial only. It is fine for an overnighter although there is some road noise.

Canungra

Our next stop was Canungra where we stayed at the Showgrounds. This is a lovely site with well maintained amenities and plenty of powered and unpowered sites. The unpowered sites at the back along the river are lovely if you can handle the walk back to the amenities. The actual town is within walking distance and apparently the pub puts on a good feed.

Accommodation Rating – 4.5/5

Comment Great site within easy driving distance of the Scenic Rim area including Mount Tambourine as well as the Gold Cost in all of its revolting glory. Fires were allowed.

Gold Coast

The Gold Coast beaches are only about half an hour away from Canungra. This type of crowded opulence does not appeal to us at all but I wanted to have a look to convince myself it was as awful as we thought - it was, enough said.....

Aratula

Alan lived in Queensland for a few years and had not been back for about 25 years. We took the opportunity to visit his old house and were invited in by a friendly guy who is renting the place. He did not pass my tenant requirements as the place was an unholy mess but Alan enjoyed checking out his old house.

Lake Moogerah

We finished the day with a visit to lake Moogerah. It has great facilities and you can walk over the dam wall. The grounds are extensively landscaped with picnic shelters, amenities and areas that can be used for weddings and other events.
