It was time to move on from Robe so after taking the dogs for a walk on Long Beach we headed 40km up the road to Kingston SE. The SE stands for south east to differentiate it from Kingston on Murray, no points for guessing where that is located! Kingston is not as fancy as Robe but still a very pleasant place to stay, particularly given the RV friendly council.
We parked at the 24 hour RV Stop close to town and across from the very popular jetty. Being the first here we got the prime real estate with great views. The camp has clean toilets, rubbish bins, is walking distance to supermarket and boozer and is free to use – not surprisingly there were about 20 rigs here by the time it got dark and the council record number plates to enforce the 24hr limit. There is another camp at Pinks Beach which is less popular but has a five day limit.
We wandered up the jetty after lunch to check out if the fish were biting, but only saw an undersized bream and a pufferfish being caught. A local advised that ‘the big ones’ would bite on the incoming tide at 1am but I prefer my beauty sleep! Kingston seems to be inhabited by thousands of tiny spiders, last time we were here they were all over the jetty but thankfully they preferred the park bench today.
Beautiful sunset behind the jetty, so off I went with the camera again, rather pleased with the result.
We seem to see the strangest things on our travels, we were sitting under the awning minding our own business when this woman walked past, guessing over 60 and wearing nothing except black knickers, while covering her boobs with what looked like a treeguard and carrying a long stick WTF???? I considered taking a quick photo but was worried the sight would crack my lenses!
Later when walking around the camp I got talking to a couple travelling in a coaster who were sitting outside with two cockatiels perched on top of their cage. Apparently ‘Banjo and Frankie’ travel everywhere with their owners although and have a ‘three story apartment cage’ at home. One was very friendly and sat on my shoulder eating hair and earrings, the other was rather grumpy.
Kingston has good 4G phone but lousy TV reception, so amused myself by making bread and butter pudding for dessert. It’s a hard life but someone has to do it!
