Moree Artesian Baths
Moree does not have the best of reputations, but we thought that thawing out in an artesian hot spring would be a nice way to end another long drive. I had researched our trip on Wikicamps and noticed that one of the caravan parks in Moree offered powered sites for $17 including access to the hot springs. It turned out that one of the "resorts" had gone broke and has been purchased by another caravan park. While the facilities are being upgraded the sites are available for half price.
The good things about this site
The hot pool was great! This one is larger, and has night "mood lighting", spa jets and other water features as well as a large TV.
Another welcome idea was the home delivery service offered by the kiosk at the other park. We were able to order dinner and pay by credit card and it was good food at a reasonable price delivered on time. Very Happy!
The not so good
Unfortunately most of the pool hall is undergoing renovations and the showers are not hot and EXTREMELY slippery. Would recommend using the showers in the amenities block until these ones are properly cleaned and re-tiled as they are a serious risk, I nearly fell over twice.
The park with its gravel sites is rather sterile looking and the perimeter security fence made us feel like the animals at Dubbo Zoo! The flowers on the table next to the clothes line did little to remedy the situation! The small amount of ground covered in vegetation is infested with Bindii which caused the dogs a lot of grief. As a result the little bit of green grass around the amenities was the only place for the dogs to do their business.
Accommodation Rating – 3.5/5
|Location||Not far off the highway in Moree|
|Facilities||Showers and toilets, artesian baths|
|Dog Walks||Bugger all! The little bit of vegetation left on the site is infested with bindii and the dogs could not walk there!|
|Local Services||Moree us a large town with the usual services.
You can order food from the kiosk at the other caravan park and have it delivered to you.
|Cost||Currently half price at $17 per night|
|Comment||I struggle to give the actual caravan park more than 2/5 due to the lack of ambience, nowhere to walk the dog and bindii, but the free entry to the hot pool and home delivered meal were a great touch.
To access the park you need to go to the main caravan park to pay and get a key to the electric gate. Once the renovations are completed it should be a good stopover. Some people seem to prefer the hot springs at the other caravan park as there are several smaller baths with different temperatures. Apparently the other park can be heavily booked.
